Stepping into any Bass Pro Shop is jaw dropping, the variety of outdoor stuff is hard to fathom…

…but the store in Springfield Missouri is the grand daddy of them all and is nothing short of unreal.

Our seventh day of the road was a bit like that.

It was just after midday when we moved across town to the R66 Car Museum to a private collection of eclectic cars that were a veritable feast of eye candy for car enthusiasts.

On the outskirts of Springfield the Rockwood motel, recently restored and looking resplendent in her original giraffe flagstone.

It was easy to miss the old gas pumps in the long grass, but eagle eyes help when travelling parts of the Mother Road.

The story of Gary Turner, who was an early champion of the old route people used crossing America, is being carried by his daughter Barb and son in law George.

Barb met Barb…

George told everyone about stuff in Gary’s old garage…

And we learned why some folk pronounce Missouri different to others.

Across the road… and is Spencer Station…

… is another gas station that Ed and Steph are brining back to life!

It’s not finished but will be a special place when finished…
…if only visitors stop stopping to hear about their journey restoring one of the last remaining pieces of 1920s concrete.

Steph’s cupcakes were fresh… devoured by this group as she expected, and appreciated as we did.

Then is was a look through Red Oak II and the studio of the late and very unusual artist and sculptor Lowell Davis.

Just a short hop into Carthage brought us to Boots,

…the only example of an adobe motel left and our home for the night.

The day’s experiences continued to be unreal, a trunk dinner party at the R66 Drive In Theatre,

and a crazy story about a cat called Garfield,

It was an unreal day of real experiences on the road… time for some shut eye at Boots… under lights!
