Author, Artist and all round good guy, Jerry McClanahan, explained his passion for the Mother Road at our first stop - Chandler.

Another Jerry explained his interest in motorbikes and what was originally Route 7, Oklahoma a few miles further on in Warwick.

Back in the day his modern 'outhouse' had running water!

We slipped under the interstate on what is both old and current designated 66...

...found a very early concrete section running through trees...

that led to Joe Baxter, who brought the Round Barn story alive in Arcadia.

It would also be the start of a farm theme woven into the day's travels.

Avoiding the big cities is also our theme, so we skirted around Oklahoma City

and on through El Reno.

Seems Americans have found good use for excess orange cones!

We were in Farm country for sure, lush, green and divided by our road...

...even if blocked from time to time.

With memories of the Eastbound dirt experience fresh in our minds,

we backtracked to the tarmac at Weatherford...

...eventually getting our kicks in Clinton.

Winding on and off our main road...

revealed several well known landmarks...

and a few not so.

Elk City is home to the National R66 Museum

but also acres of sprawling buildings showcasing everything found in the region.

Some, a little more hair raising than others.

Naturally early farming would feature.

But perhaps the stand out was our quirky accommodation, which looked like a trendy shop front.

Only to reveal a luxury, early travelers would be unlikely to experience.
