One of the additions to our tours has been understanding the role David Davis played in helping Abe Lincoln land the top job in the White House. His mansion is a reminder of an important time in history for USA.

A slightly less imposing sight was the Funks Grove rail station house...

...relocated within the small rural community. This and the old Country Store indicated a much brighter past.

Although the sirip, tapped from the maple trees is still keeping place alive.

In Atlanta the Giant Museum is not quite open but promises to be big,

...expanding the reputation this small town has for the oversized men who once proudly promoted anything from mufflers to hot dogs!

Roger Miller is travelling R66 and proud too... his Chevy SS is something special in this country... and might just be a part of a different kind of history in years to come.

We caught up with Dave Petty in Lincoln at the Antique Store.

We got to see the iron strong box that Capone and others who allegedly used it for claundestine transactions en route to and from Chicago.

The instruction at our lunch stop put a smile on our faces... it was in the bathroom rather than the restaurant!

Abe Lincoln practiced law in the small town bearing his name.

But it was Springfield, that launched his political career and it's celebrated in true American style...

The great man himself even stopped by to chat with our group.

And Dennis, the top man at ACE Signs talked all things signs. (ok, so he's retired and the fourth generation of the Bringuet family are now running the show now).

The neons are impressive and contributes to ensuring the old road stays lit up.

At the Cozy Dog Diner we sampled the Ed Wildmire 'invention'.

Seems things Route 66 attract attention from all quarters, as we left the ABC 20 news crew were set for a live cross.

Down the road we checked in to our hotel for the night...

Before headed to Motorheads Diner for tucker.

It was a big night absorbed with the local car club gathering with the widest range of restored and custom creations you'll find.

As the sun dropped over the yard arm we stopped by the Illinois State Fair Ground to see how progress was coming along with Springfield's Route 66 100 year celebrations planned for 2026 - another ace job from Dennis and his team.
