2023 WB Day 11 - Texas’ Grand Canyon

About the only thing not bigger in Texas is the Lone Star state's answer to Grand Canyon.

But then you can drive to the bottom of Palo Duro Canyon, at least for the half that wasnt suffereing from the huge rains the region's had.

Work continued none the less.

Next door on a 3,500 acre cattle ranch Case showed us around the property...

The view of the Canyon is second to none.

Then we swapped out the Humvee for a long wheel base ATV, and eventually found the herd of long horn.

Young and old alike were eerily friendly despite those threatening looking horns.

Another ranch on the outskirts of Amarillo is home to different stock.

Early Cadillacs barely resemble their former self.

It's almost a rite of passage for travelers to tag the upended bodies... and sadly just dump the cans on the ground.

New and old reminders lined the road west. Old power poles in the right marked where the main road once lay, while wind turbines speak to the future.

The bent door in Adrian is still bent and standing... how much longer before someone decides to souvenir it?

A famous Ugly Crust pie was lunch... count down to the sugar hit that would kick in later in the day!

Time to mark the mid point of this journey before returning to the job at hand.

New Mexico beckoned, the countryside had changed yet again, unusually green and our elevation had climbed, approaching 4,000ft.

At Glenrio a smart looking Hummer has been prepared as a sales tool for the impending 'health' dispensary opening soon.

Russell's Truck Stop is a must see stop, so we did.

And then it was the final leg into Tucumcari where the evidence of weather lay in the surrounding pastures.

Axel's passion engaged the group at the Mesalands Museum where he brought us into his world of paleontology.

Even if dinasours don't interest you, Axels enthusiasm for them will.

The Blue Swallow Motel has been hammered by hail in the past three weeks and it will be some time before this place, and the main drag are fully ablaze in their reputation for bright neon.
