There was hot coffee before we left Tucumcari, thanks to Robert's camping stove!

We didn't find power till Russell's Truck Stop 30 miles east but best of all, we found a stunning collection of more than just cars.

Nearby is the ghost town of Glenrio where nothing has changed in decades... there's just more weeds.

Until developers came in. Seems this little used part of the world will soon be home to a different kind of weed. Texas hasn't legalised recreational marijuana, so right across the border makes perfect economic sense... doesn't it?

66 runs clear across the state of Texas through the panhandle.

We're in farming country now, cattle, as you'd expect but there must be money in wind generators - they fill the horizon - but are all standing still.

It was a bit like the tortoise precariously positioned in the middle of the old road. Jude got down to get up close and personal, NB. Neither human or tortoise were harmed during the filming process.

And while Jude didnt try the same angle at the Cadillac Ranch, others did...

One wonders why?

Cavenders Boot City is conveniently located on the i40 and is a compulsory shop stop for Kiwis and Aussies...

And given we were holeing up in Amarillo for the night, there was time to explore the mile long strip through the historic part of town.

Then it was on to the Starlight Canyon Lodge and our special accommodation on the edge of the Palo Duro Canyon.

It was also movie night. 'Cars' has new meaning when travelling the mother road.
