2023 EB Day 4 - What A Blast

Clearing Las Vegas early we were amongst the first to tour the power plant at Hoover Dam. It's an impressive sight which ever way you look at it.

Skirting along the Colorado River we powered down the i95 to rejoin the old road to Oatman.

Not much has changed in the pioneer gold town - the hotel, famous for hosting Clark Gable's third honeymoon - and we survived lunch in the dollar bill plastered walls...

...and the gunfight, a shootout that saw one liners land with as much accuracy as the gun blanks!

Still, all for a good cause and a few laughs nonetheless. Mix in a baby burro, wandering amongst the old western town and it made for a memorable day.

Down the other side of the mountain, spectacular landscapes surround.

This original section of road boasts more curves per mile than any other section of the mother road and keeps the eyes firmly focused... and the rock formations... Wow!

We wound our way to the place that was inspiration for Radiator Springs garage in the Cars movie.

Cool Springs, as it's really known is also famous for another movie - Universal Soldier featuring Jean-Claude van Damme - where this very building was blown to bits.

Nothing like that today but we listened to Dan, who was on hand and excited to be sharing what he knew of the back story.

Closer to our overnight stop we snapped a shot at a dead end or 'No Outlet', with the i40 now dominating the horizon. It's a feature of our adventure, discovering where the old road once meandered its way cross country.

El Travetore is home tonight and owner Sam delights us, like every incoming group with his pearls of wisdom about his motel (soon to feature in 'Motel Rescue') his town and surrounds..
