Last night the girls discovered the unusual artwork of Martin Sánchez, a Mexican immigrant who built a life on the trash of others in the form of art!

Joining the freeway eastbound we discovered small sections of 66 nestled alongside the interstate as it weaves its way through the Cajun Pass.

Through the mountains is Victorville, where they embrace R66 in their 'welcome' Museum and Patti, Delvin and their team opened up early for us.

Like Australia, California has bottle trees... sort of!

We met a couple of Spanish bikers travelling the other direction who, despite Gael's best efforts couldn't be convinced to join our tour?

Barstow also proudly supports the old road with markers scattered along the main road through town.

But it's just down the road in Yermo where we really get into Route 66 at Peggy Sue's Diner! Curley fries and fruit pies are their specialty... so we obliged.

Day 2 on the road was always going to be a long stretch but much of it after lunch was the i15...

... and we gobbled up the 130 miles to Goodsprings in good time to find the old saloon bar under new management with new displays

of just whats been filmed here and who's visited.

Las Vegas isn't on Route 66 but it's a much requested stop by our guests and like it or hate it, the experience is indelible.
