Outside Carthage, wife Rose is keeping Lowell Davis' dream alive at Red Oak II.

In fact the recreated town in the middle of a pastures has really taken on a life if it's own with people investing in some of the properties themselves.

The road dividing the lush pastures makes for a smooth ride east with long forgotten but much photographed ruins dotted along the roadside.

At Spencer Station we discover Ed, enthusiastic about rebuilding the inside of what is currently a great photo op.

It's going to be a spectacular with period cafe, barber shop and merch sales.

Route 66 wouldn't be what it is without Barb & George.

Barb's Dad Gary Turner was an ambassador to the cause using his Gay Prita Gas Station to tell folks about Route 66.

And like Rose down the road, and they're continuing the great work of promoting the cause.

But it's something new that is our lunch time stop... made more special with flags reminding us of this special day in USA.

For Kiwis, think Hunting & Fishing on steroids! Bass Pro shops are in a grand scale and this is the grand daddy of them all.

Sure, it's a shop... but wait, there's more!

There's even a Motorsport connection.

Dropping off the Mother Road, we head south towards the state of Arkansas to the entertainment capital of USA.

Dolly Parton's Stampede had very little to do with Dolly...

but was a great display of horsemanship and American pride and passion. It was all served up in 90 minutes with a meal delivered with the speed and agility of the performers.

We walked dinner off at Branson Landing beside White River...

with thousands of people enjoying their Memorial Day holiday and maybe even dabbling in a little retail therapy.
