We crossed into the state of Oklahoma soon after leaving Shamrock.

Texola is home to a several relic buildings and a once proud dual lane of Route 66.

We're definitely in pasture country now, lush paddocks and freshly baled hay.

Small towns punctuate our travels, Erick, another with a ghostly feel.

Near Sayre we find find a decommissioned lane from the original dual road that's almost gone... but not forgotten by those keen to experience it.

There is a good record of the past in Elk City...

and the perfect spot to snap our own record of this cross country adventure.

The best record of the Mother Road journey from east to west through the dust bowl of America is in Clinton.

Across the road is the Trade Winds Inn... or what's left of it. Progress does change things and room 215, made famous by Elvis, is no more. This was the mid point on the King's journey from Memphis to Las Vegas but his pad has been reduced to rubble.

Lunch was an education in fast food service, watching the staff at Johnnies pump out some of the 1200 burgers on this busy Memorial Day.

Skirting the edge of Oklahoma City we arrive in Arcadia, home of the 66ft tall Soda Pop and the Round Barn.

And let's not forget the eccentric John Hargrave, with his yard and buildings full of mini me memorabilia complete with diner and theatre.

John's currently building a new rod, ready for his own journey west.

In Warwick, tte Seaba Motorbike museum has an unusual display amongst a myriad of bike history.

A battered bike, once picked up by a tornado and deposited nearly a hundred miles away.

Jerry McClanahan is home in Chandler and shares his passion for the road through his art and words.

Not far away is our vintage motel, the Lincoln - it's certainly a time capture - but it's a bed for the night and the 66 Bowl is walking distance for dinner with an early night to follow.
