With a little extra time up our sleeve, thanks to kicking off a little earlier yesterday, we had breakfast at Mel’s Diner, right at the 'other' start point at Olympic Blvd.

The fish tank full of what we will see on the road was commissioned by the Weiss family from the folk who make the TV show - 'Tanked'.

Then it was on the road to Rodeo drive... and why not, plenty to dream about here!

Arroyo Seco Parkway was the first freeway in the west and part of original Route 66.

We couldn't fill up at either of the two old gas stations (in opposing states of repair) but did so at a modern day one! Wish the prices were the same as back then, but compared to down under, we won't complain!

The architecture of the Aztec Hotel in Monrovia is unusual and as usual the old watering hole was closed at this time of day.

No Big Macs to be had here but there was plenty of appetite for the McDonalds' story at the original McDonalds site .

Next stop was the Mission Inn in Riverside -
home for the night. If you've been there you'll know... if you haven't, let the pictures tell the story!
