It was an early start from Stroud to meet Jerry McClanaghan in Chandler.

The Author of the EZ66 Guide is well versed in things Route 66 and his personal experience as a child on and off the old road serves him well as an authority.

Hi wife Mariko is also passionate about the Mother Road and we met her as well. Barry had his eye on Jerry's '57 Chev wagon.

Seaba Station, just 10 miles away has an even better display of motorbikes and merchandise and we spent good time there finding old and old new motorcycles from the past.

The complexity of building the Round Barn back in the 1800s was explained well by Carlina...

...and then we slipped back to John Hargraves' place to be entertained by the jack of all trades.

He'd just come from a 5 mile run and an hour of Zoomba exercise!

Lunch at Soda Pop 66 was pretty straight forward... customers of all political persuasion dining without fear or favour!

No huge queue for food... even though it was busy and that allowed us to stay on schedule and dart across the top of Oklahoma City and on to Clinton.

The old road paralleled the i44 for much of the afternoon run, taking in the longest Pony Truss bridge...

...which is under serious threat of decommission due to its inability to carry the traffic that even this secondary road has - mind you it would make a very long walking bridge if you were looking for exercise!

The official Route 66 Museum at Clinton is definitely engaging and possibly the best snapshot of what the old road represents, how it came into being and why it was decommissioned.

Simple, clear displays and a movie leave a concise picture for anyone interested in Route 66.

We didn't quite make the 'National' Route 66 museum in Elk City. They close right on 5pm and today it was ten minutes early, so not even a peek.

But we did have a walk around the well laid out 'old town' display associated with the Museum.

We cruised in to Sayre for the night, set up in the bar for drinks, dinner and a movie.

This time 'Cars' to help bring more meaning to some of the weird and wonderful things we've seen on the road so far. More of that to come tomorrow when we drive across another state border in Texas...

...but for now the Ponies are sheltering along with a rogue Camaro under the motel front awning in expectation of some activity (read tornado!) overnight and the lead up was certainly lighting up the sky.
