Lou Mitchells has been the place to eat since 1923, even before Route 66 came into existence. Milk Duds and Donut centres have been favourite giveaways since 1958 and these days it's the first (or last) stop on any Route 66 tour. It was breakfast for our two groups, one finishing and one starting.

Next the 'Untouchables' Bus picked us up and delivered us to the start of their tour in downtown, circumnavigating the city to visit many sites previously made famous by Al Capone and many of the underworld heavies of the bootleg era.

The best tour though was by boat checking out the spectacular views and completely different perspective provided from the water of the city's architecture.

The remainder of the afternoon was spent wandering around the city...

... with lunch at the Cheesecake Factory for some but the rendezvous was back at De Witt. We had a train to catch.

24 Kiwis and Aussies (mustn't forget a couple of Americans on this tour!) walked to the train, rattled our way to Wrigley Field and settled in for three hours of baseball.

We proudly supported the home team (Chicago Cubs) as they came back from an early deficit to the St Louis Cardinals to win the only Saturday night comp.

41,0005 people packed into the country's most famous baseball stadium for a memorable night, even with the America love for standing up regularly to allow everyone to come and go from their seats!

By the Lake's edge later that night we watched the fireworks and bid farewell to the Eastbound members, who would likely not be awake when the Westbound team pulls out in the morning.
