The weather was perfect leaving Sayre and was still good half an hour later in Elk City wandering around the National R66 museum.

Further down the road at Clinton the official R66 display neatly presents the Mother Road story in a concise and straightforward manner in a time capsule walk through.

Next was a one hour haul across Oklahoma via plenty of genuine Route 66, the Lucilles Gas Station...

and the long 30 span Pony bridge at Bridgeport.

Evidence of huge flooding lay in the Canadian river bed, massive trees strewn out on the sand.

In El Reno and as is often the case in this part of the world, people dealing with damage from the previous week's tornado that ripped through town.

Seemed strange on a day that started with clear blue skies and had now reached 30 degrees C... but that soon changed with dark clouds ahead.

The was little but water to see though, as we straddled the top of Oklahoma City, the predicted weather front had arrived and with it high winds buffeting our Mussies around on the i44.

Lunch was at the Soda Pop 66 in Arcadia... and it seemed everyone had the same idea!

A 66ft bottle marks the location for the world's largest collection of soda pops.

Five minutes away was the Round Barn, built in 1898 and originally used for hay storage, has been put to better use as the community's dance hall.

We were treated to some delightful stories by 93 yr old Mr Sam who came in specially (only works on a Monday these days!) and even a few hot steps for the girls, for which he still has a keen eye!

We found the short original loop road to John Hargrove's 'mini me' of Route 66.

It's an eccentric collection of his interest in 'the road'... and more, once again showing the passion that exists as we travel from state to state.

In Chandler Jerry McClanahan shared his thoughts on discovering the Mother Road from the inside of his father's car as he tore non stop across it in the late '60s. The author of the 'bible', EZ66 Guide is also a wonderful artist, capturing the essence of our journey.

That journey would end for day 11 in Stroud, 15 minutes away, with dinner at the Rock Cafe.
