Rejoining Route 66 meant swinging past Hoover Dam and on down the 95 but that was easier said than done. A Plant Tour of one of America's biggest man made accomplishments highlighted just how big the feat really was.

Our travelling timeline was disrupted early though, when 1500 motorbikes made their way from one side of Hoover (Arizona) into Boulder City across the border and that meant no one was going anywhere... so we got to witness the patriotism of USA for their Memorial Day bike run.

The run down the 95 was, shall we say quick... and pretty soon we were winding our way up through the hills with the local Burras (that would be a mule, donkey or cross between a horse and a donkey - the jury is still out with our horse aficionado Kathie!) Whatever the case they were super friendly, eager for anything to eat and thankfully the tops were up on the convertibles.

Oatman's that tiny western hangover from the gold mining boom that made so much of this part of the world. Here the stars of the big screen Carol Lombard and Clark Gable honeymooned...

and more than one or two gunfights would have prevailed no doubt.

Seemed fighting over gold was still going on, the locals raising funds for the local kids hospital.

From Oatman it's a short winding run 'over them there hills' to Cool Springs and the site of the gas station that was blown up for the movie 'Universal Soldier' and years later rebuilt to be used as inspiration in 'Cars' the movie.

The road down to the i40 was stunning, a perfect paradise for any budding Targa driver and this group seriously enjoyed the experience.

Where the old road meets the i40 we got our first view of the way the Mother Road has been swallowed up by the interstate, littering the landscape with dead ends.

El Travatore in Kingman is home for Day 5, one of several vintage motels we'll experience along the way... Jo opting for different sleeping arrangements from the rest of us! Mind you the weather has been unseasonably chilly and we suspect she'll find one of the movie star themed rooms a more acceptable alternative.
