Seven Mustangs... yes, V8s this time!

First stop was the newly restored Mel’s Diner for brunch. Colton Weiss, grandson

of the man who started the chain back in the fifties explained the background to the old Diner and just why they re-established on this site that is officially recognised as the start/end of Route 66. Great addition to the tours.

Out on the Santa Monica Pier though, that familiar photo of the R66 sign and the signal we were getting underway. Four couples from various parts of the South Island of New Zealand and two from Sydney, Australia.

The guy on the scooter is not part of our tour, but hey why wouldn't you expect to see a sight like this on a freeway onramp!!

Later in the day down at Costa Mesa Kyle Millen showed us the Stillen sports parts facility, where amongst other things they design and build aero kits, integrate superchargers and brakes and other cool things for cars. The business was established by his famous motor racing father, Kiwi ex pat, Steve back in 1986.

Wilma's Patio was dinner and then a Balboa Bar on the island that shares the same name capped off the night...

DownUnder On Route 66 is rolling for 2019!
