Day 12 - Let it Snow

Everyone was up taking photos at the Wigwam, so we hit the road early arriving at Jack Rabbit before they had opened. Still time for a photo by the huge sign and that says it all... oh and let's not forget a shot with the Hare.

That meant we arrived in Winslow early... and wasn't that a bonus. Hundreds of Run For The Wall bikers were en route to Washington DC to support fallen soldiers and we got swallowed up in the celebrations.
American patriotism has to be admired and everyone of the Kiwi (and one Australian) visitors eagerly waved the US symbol of independence. One wonders whether a change of flag, that might be less confused with our neighbours, might see more of us flying our own more proudly.

Out on the highway, we got an indication of things to come, although no-one picked it... there was snow on the mountains.

The obligatory stop for a malt shake in Flagstaff at the Galaxy Diner was made before we moved closer to our day's destination.

On the outskirts of Williams is Bearizona, so we checked out the Bears and Bison, and dined at their new restaurant for lunch.

We checked in to our Wild West accommodation, had time for a look around Williams, the last town to be bi-passed by the i40 back in the late 80s.
The inclement cloud suggested we wouldn't see much at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon so while the team sat back in the warmth of the iMax Theater watching the film of the canyon history Robyn and Paul shot out to the Rim to check it out.

It started to snow en route and the cloud meant hardly anything could be seen... but after their film everyone thought they should go anyway!
Just as well... it cleared in time for the most picaresque of sunsets... if not short and sweet!

So our planned Picnic on the Rim went ahead on dusk before returning to Williams... in a snowstorm!

It'd been a hell of a day!
