Day 6 - Bear Essentials

It turned out to be one of the most popular stops of the day - Bearizona, a privately owned zoo featuring North American animals.

Driving amongst the bears and wolves really gives a sense of being amongst nature although the comfort of being inside the car was best of all!

Their latest addition a million dollar Jaguar enclosure was only equaled by their new restaurant decor.

In Flagstaff we stopped at the Galaxy Diner for a mandatory malted milkshake. It's one of the classic 50's diners and photos adorn the walls of famous movie stars who have swaggered in and out her doors.

Nothing much remains of Twin Arrows Gas Station, you can't even drive off old route 66 to stop... but the symbolic arrows that feature in every tourist book still remain if nothing else.

Nothing much remains of the meteor that hit the ground at 11 miles a second several million years ago, but the hole it left in the ground at Meteor Crater is the largest recorded in the world.

We took it easy, standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona. Had time for lunch at the Sipp Shoppe and then it was back on the road to Jack Rabbit, the outpost Trading store that's somehow managed to survive being bypassed all those years ago. This team bought up big and helped the cause!

Holbrook was the last stop and a sleepover with a difference. One of only two remaining Wigwam Motels on Route 66 would end our seventh day on the road after some Mexican at Romos - down the road.
